Catching up after the long weekend

Good morning everyone!

Sorry for the hiatus over the weekend. I thought I had my Friday Mashup post set to auto post (which I didn't--eek!) So I'll start with that! We made the trip South to Anchorage for wrestling tournaments, my son took 2nd for Greco Roman (his first time wrestling that style) and 1st for freestyle in his weight divisions! I also played some roller derby and we got a snow storm! Fun times!

Friday Mashup has a fun sketch and theme for these next 2 weeks! Sadly, it will be the last mashup :(

What a fun set, right? This is last year's "For Peeps Sake" stamp set and Watercolor Wonder (ret) paper set. I though it was just perfect for an Easter Card.

Also, exciting things happening for my little ol' blog! I recently purchased the domain name closetstampin.com (YAY!) and starting using TAMS for my supply list! I know, I'm just catching up with the times!

Love Ya for Friday Mashup

Good morning!!

This week over at the Friday Mashup we have a fun color challenge for you to try!

This week's Mashup Challenge is: 

• Create a Project using 3 or more Colors pictured above and a Neutral of your Choice. 
• Create a Project using a Shimmer based product.. Watercolors, Shimmer Paints or sprays, Wink of Stella etc.... 
• or Mash it Up and create a Shimmery project using 3 or more of the Colors above.

Birthday Wishes for Friday Mashup!

Morning friends!

This week the Friday Mashup crew has a fun birthday and stencil mashup to play along with!

Here's the challenge:

Here's what I came up with:

Remember yesterday how I said mashups work well for 2 blogs, but not for the one I need to mashup? For months I've been haphazardly trying my Spellbinders Embossibilities and haven't had much luck. So for this card I was determined to figure it out. First I stenciled the colors using sponges then ran it through the big shot and it worked pretty well. (The embossing is hard to see in the picture) I CASED the project on the Spellbinders package and did a lot of altering until I got it worthy of using, ha. (It's been one of those weeks!) I have a hard time with the Brights color family. They are just too much for me sometimes! There was too much teal, so I scored it down to make a gift card holder.

Valentine's and Candy Mashup!

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Today at the Friday Mashup we have a super fun theme to play along with, Candy and Valentines! Seems like a natural combo to me!

Also, doesn't this picture look delicious. (even if you despise candy hearts..blech!)

The Mashup Challenge this week is:

• Create a project for your Valentine. 
• Create a project featuring a Candy image. 
• or Mash it Up!! and create a V-day Candy themed project.

Here's what I came up with:

I CASED this card from HERE. I loved EVERYTHING about the layout! I just changed up my papers and added that little candy piece up top (which is hard to see in the picture since I used mesh wrapper ends).  The paper is the retired 'Stacked with Love' DSP paired with some Coastal Cabana accents. I love DSP stacks because all the hard work of coming up with a color theme is done for you and the papers work together beautifully. Finally, the stamps are from the Jan 2016 Paper Pumpkin kit and some added rhinestones helps finish off the card. 

I hope you play along with the Friday Mashup for this challenge. I LOVE to see all the creativity that our site inspires! Also, tell your friends to play too!

What the Heck, Jayme!

.....That is the thought I had the other day when I realized that I hadn't blogged in probably a week!

ugh. "Thats how you keep your following!" Yikes!

The last 2 weeks have been a whirlwind blur. I was doing great until we had an out-of-town bout, then that was it! My card streak came to a screeching halt, no blogging, minimal facebooking. Heck, just yesterday I thought "surely I have design team cards that are due... probably today!" 

Not to bore you with all the details, but you all know I play roller derby, and a few weeks ago we ended our lease agreement with the landlord of our BIG beautifully dusty practice space. Since then we've had games, moved out and have been seeking new space. We've been graciously invited to a neighboring league practice (THANK YOU!). Also, life and wrestling season is in full swing as well. 

Enough of the sob story. (Move on, lady! haha) Now I'll catch you up! 

Starting with Tis The Season Stamping's color challenge! 

Yikes! We are dark!

We do have a few challenge guidelines* we'd like to ask you to follow:

• Your project must be a new Christmas project created for this challenge.
• You may use any brand of product that you have in your stash. 
• If you combine challenges please limit it to no more then 4 including ours.
• Please provide a link back to our challenge or use the challenge graphic within your post.

Next up is this Just for You card:

Supplies: Very Vanilla and watercolor papers. Primrose Petals, Coastal Cabana, So Saffron, white craft inks. Clear and white embossing powder, versa mark, aqua painter, enamel dots. Botanicals for You SAB stamp set. 

This card was a watercolor technique gone ALL wrong. I still like the outcome though! I found inspiration on Pinterest for a technique where the original poster used distress inks watercolored onto paper then once dried, lifted the color with a baby wipe. SU inks don't lift all that well and left me with a wear mark on the paper. So, I just grabbed some white ink and dabbed dots with a stencil. You can see all the dots if you look at the card in light and move it so they shimmer a bit. All in all, I still think it's pretty, just not what I was trying to do. 

Keeping with the watercolor theme, here's a watercolor wash card!

Supplies: Another Thank You Photopolymer stamp. Basic Black and whisper white paper. Basic black embossing power, versa mark, Melon Mambo, Real Red, Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Bermuda Bay, Rich Razzleberry Inks. Rhinestones. Done. :)

This card was inspired by the lovely Tami White and was SO easy. Literally 10 minutes (including drying time). I'll be making a BUNCH more of these. 

And last but not least, this adorable monkey waterfall card for Friday Mashup! 

A whole bunch of retired products were used to make this. Let me know if you want a supply list and I'll dredge on up :)

I love this card! It's so fun and you can play with it for hours! I made one a LONG time ago, then when this challenge came up for the Friday Mashup crew, I knew just what to do! (sorry, watching a lot of kids shows lately, haha)

Friday Mashup!!!!!!

Today is the day!! I'm so excited to be a part of the Friday Mashup design team!! It was my VERY FIRST challenge blog I submitted to and it's great to come full circle and join the design team! I'm always blown away by the talent of the team and all the people who submit their creations.

Here's what I came up with: 

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this new Sale-a-bration Hello stamp set by Stampin' Up! It's a big bold, yet feminine statement stamp that really looks great no matter what you put it on! I also used the SAB Wildflower Fields DSP for the tags and background. What's great about SU's DSP is that it matches beautifully together (you just have to figure out the best layout).

Streak Day 15 & 16 Technique Frenzy!

Good morning!

What a busy last couple of days!

Friday, we had my son's wrestling tournament. he got first place in his weight class (70 lb).

Saturday was like recovery day, which we spent watching football. I could've done a lot more, but just relaxed!

So I got a bit of good news to share... I am going to be a design team member for the Friday Mashup! Woot woot!! What is so crazy about that is that was the VERY first challenge blog that I ever submitted to! So, I can't wait to start with that!

Alright, on to card streaks!

Day 15: This is one of my favorite techniques. Inlaid embossing always looks nice no matter now unsure you are with the idea that was in your head. Typically I do a variety of colors, but just wanted to go with black and white with this one, not a color combo I go with so it brought some discomfort.

Stamps: Homegrown (retired)
Ink: Basic Black
Paper: Basic Black, Naturals White. 
Ribbon: Black Satin Ribbon (retired), rhinestones, Wink of Stella glitter brush (have you noticed how it is used on EVERY THING since I got it...not sorry!)

Day 16: I decided to play along with The Friday Mashup's color challenge using the masking tape technique. 

The masking tape technique is quite simple if you've never done it before. I used blue 1" painters tape. Rip off a section slightly wider than your paper, place it on your ink pad a few times to transfer the ink then place on your card. I rub it with my finger to make sure the ink all transfers over and used the same piece of tape for the whole card. (I don't recommend if you're mixing a variety of colors. It was good since mine were all in the same category. ) That's it!

Stamp: Holly Jolly Greetings
Ink: Night of Navy (ret), Not quite Navy, Marina Mist, Bordering Blue (ret), Smoky Slate stamped off, then the final bit at the bottom was the smoky slate stamped off for a third time for a lighter effect. Whisper white craft ink.
Accessories: silver cording, clear designer vintage button, Christmas Greeting thinlit, wink of Stella glitter brush, white embossing powder.

Floral Frenzy for FM226!

Good afternoon! This morning while surfing Facebook I came across the Friday Mashup layout for the week and had to give it a try! I've seen so many cool things done with inlaid embossing!

If you aren't familiar with inlaid embossing, there's a great video link on the challenge page. Pretty much, it's using those cute little dies, but instead of layering them, you cut them to fit like a puzzle!

I decided to CASE the card on page 77 in the 2015 SU Idea Book and Catalog. Which may have been a bit much for the first attempt, I've been dying to use that set and I thought today was just the day to give it a whirl.

I am in love with this technique because it keeps the bulky layers at bay that you would typically get if they were stacked. Once everything was assembled, I decided to run it through with an embossing folder because I was NOT a fan of the framelet outlines. Now, it's a bit busier so they aren't noticed quite as much.

All in all, it was fun! I still think I should've done something a tad but simpler. It definitely got me out of my comfort zone. But, go big or go home, right?

FM 153 Challenge

Good morning! Another challenge post for you all! I'm enjoying my relatively low-key week!

 

 

Here's your Mashup Challenge:

1. Create a project using the colors "Daffodil Delight, Wild Wasabi & Perfect Plum".
2. Create a project using "an Aqua Painter or a Blender Pen to create a Watercolor Effect".
3. Or mash it up and create a project with the "Colors above & a Watercolor Effect".

I love the Mardi Gras theme picture that the Friday Mashup team picked out! Although my card isn't anywhere related, it was still fun to reminisce of King's Cake and daiquiris! 

Here's what I came up with: 

This was a good project for using up some scraps. Even if it came absolutely-nowhere-near scraping the depths of scrap I have.

Hey everyone! I have finally had a change to get some crafting done! Wahoo! Naturally, I went to The Friday Mashup gang to see what they had in store! Here is what I came up with:

 I had a really simple card in mind. I have a hard time with a busy background sometimes and boy was this one of those times! No matter what I did, I just wasn't feeling it. So, I just left it be and will chalk it up as one of those cards that even if I don't like it, someone else will love it. I actually think if I received this card I would be over the moon. Funny how that works.

Imagine the Flowers

Hi all! My men went Caribou hunting on Wednesday and have left Felicity and I lots of time to do whatever we gals please! Naturally, I took to making a few cards!

I cased this card from LeAnne Greff. I purchased her latest Technique Tutorials and I had to make this one first!! It is 'inlaid embossing' and simply stunning with some minor tweaks on my end!

I'll also be posting this to The Friday Mashup's latest sketch! I always love playing along when I get a chance!

Happy birthday to Evan...oh, and valentines day. FM45!

Hey there all! First of all, HAPPY 8th birthday to my wonderful son, Evan! Time truly flies! He'll be a teen (eek!) before we know it! Happy Valentine's day to all of you cupid lovers out there as well. Hopefully your cupid got you something thoughtful.

 I made these little cutsies for my fellas. Nothing too crazy, but Evan will be getting spoiled after school with the heap of gifts from family (its like christmas over here!) and Carl and I don't do too much to celebrate...everyday is valentines up in here, LOL! Inside of the sour cream wrappers (as Belinda calls them, my hubby says they are fruit popsicle wrappers) has some candy. Reese's Pieces for the hubby (and left a note saying I love him to pieces in his lunch) and two push pop candies for Evan.

Sorry its not very clear, it was taken on my iPhone.

 On with it, you say! Its been a while, but I saw the Friday Mashup's cutie patootie challenge, and had to play along! Who doesn't love PENGUINS????

So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :

1. Make a project using the "Spotlighting Technique".  
2. Or Make a project featuring "Penguins".  
3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project featuring "Penguins using the Spotlighting Technique". 

I saw this challenge and thought of a card my friend Belinda made for Evan last year when we came to visit! Its so stinking cute! I changed up a few things, but its essentially the same, and took minutes to make! 

Isn't he something!! Also, there was 0, zilch, nada stamping involved! (There will be for a sentiment when I finally give away this gem!) Its all punches and the Top Note Die from SU! Also used was a white gel pen, the green ribbon (which is SO adorable...but I forgot the name) was a SU clearance rack find and is retired. (It came with orange rick rack) and the dazzling diamonds glitter glue! I propped him up on dimensionals and added a tiny bit of Early Espresso sponging around the bottom of his feet, his bottom and on the snow. 

Well, I'm off to prepare for some birthday festivities for Evan. He requested store-bought cupcakes (for ease he tells me, my baking is rather delicious) to pass out to his class. Also, some ammo my hubby has been bugging me about (its cheaper at Wal-Mart, and he's been asking me every day if I went and got it, he won't be shooting until this weekend...what's the rush!) And then to make a card and wrap the gifts for Evan. Its a good thing he has after school club today!

With that out of the way (I'm sure this wasn't surprising news to anyone) on to today's challenge card! It's Birthday week over at The Friday Mashup, which is perfect, because today is MY birthday! Yay! One last year before the big 3-0! My boys spoiled me early with a new embossing tool (Carl broke mine while fixing his truck...the arctic weather makes regular plastic cords go snap in the cold.) Also got a some spa time! A mani/pedi, eyebrow wax,  and 30 min. pregnancy massage! Bliss! Anywho....

So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :

1. Make a "Birthday" project.
2. Or Make a project using "Pastels/Chalks or Pastel Colors".
3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a "Birthday project using Pastels" .

Here is my project using pastel colors...and distressing...lots of distressing!

Man, I had a hard time with this...pastels are not my color pallet of choice.  I better change quick, as I'm awaiting the arrival of a baby girl in March.... Hence why once I put it together, I had to distress like mad and wear it out. I like vintage-looking pastels I guess. So, my card looks dirty and I like it. (Suddenly that Rhianna song pops into mind...) Like an old chair that's just too comfy to repair, or a worn out book. (Which I own neither..lol...or the Rhianna song)

FM #38 & PP #77

What, two posts in one week! YAY! I have some time on my hands!

Lucky for me, challenge #38 was extended until Jan. 4 giving me a chance to play along! Here's what I came up with! Edit: This card was also entered into Paper Players #77 challenge. 

I cased this card from one I saw on Pinterest, but here is the link to SCS that she originally posted on. I changed up a few things, my pin holes don't circle entirely, also scored and sanded the grey paper instead of used striped paper. Also, no button or bakers twine embellishments and a different saying. But, I LOVE this stamp set and jumped at the chance to be able to use it!

Inspired by the gals at Friday Mashup, I've made a card to play along!! (I know, it's been a really long time!)

So, here is my card that celebrates the new year and sparkles!

The top right firework is supposed to be black...its showing up this odd gold color in the picture.  (sorry, couldn't fix that) I really wanted to stick with the traditional black, gold, and silver colors and be as simple as possible. I really like how the different textures and layers add contrast.
