October Swap Group

Hey everyone!!

Here is the card I made for our October swap group. The theme this month was Thankful (one of my favorites). I stuck with the fall theme to go along with this and came up with this card using nice fall colors.

There is a specific name for this technique, which is totally slipping my mind at the moment. Inlaid embossing maybe? You can use punched or die cut images scattered then embossed as well. Anyway, no matter what you do, it always looks great. For this card I just stamped the leaves in different colors and then ran through the big shot with an embossing folder. It adds a perfect bit of texture (and also distracts the eye from any blemishes). For the punched image, I used the decorative label punch for the sentiment, then punched Blackberry Bliss and cut in half to frame around it. I love how versatile our punches are!

Supplies: All Stampin' Up (unless otherwise noted)
Paper: Dusty Durango (ret) Crushed Curry, Whisper White, Blackberry Bliss
Stamps: Days of Gratitude
Ink: Hello Honey, Tangelo Twist, Blackberry Bliss.
Accessories: Island Indigo ribbon (ret), square lattice embossing folder (ret), Decorative Label punch.

Thanks for stopping by and have a stamptastic day!!

Tripling the fun for fall!

Hey everyone!

Fall is in FULL swing here in Alaska! With the colors quickly changing, I had it in me to make one a card using one of my favorite techniques. The triple layer card! I'm always skeptical when I start if it will come out, but it NEVER disappoints!

The measurements for this card are as follows:
Card base (A2) 4 1/2 x 5 1/4"
Layer 1 (stamped) 4 x 5 1/4"
Layer 2 (solid) 3 1/4 x 4 1/2"
Layer 3 (stamped) 3 x 4 1/4"
Layer 4 (Solid) 2 1/4 x 3 1/2"
Layer 5 (Stamped) 2 x 3 1/4"

Cut all of your cardstock and layer to keep everything organized. Using an removable adhesive, layer and position the white stamping layer together and adhere so that they won't move around while you're stamping. Choose your images and stamp the layers. You'll notice that along the edges where the paper layers, the image won't stamp clearly and thats okay, don't try and fix it! Once all of your stamping is done, carefully pull detach the stamped layers and assemble with the solid pieces. Then, starting at the base, assemble upward. Remember, if you're adding embellishments, such as ribbon, to measure and position before you are completely adhered together.

And thats it! Such a beautiful and relatively easy card to make. I find that this style of card is good for  those sets that have lots of bitty stamps in them, that you might not necessarily know what you're going to do with.

**Note, when tying ribbons, it helps to have tiny fingers to hold the ribbon in place. :)

Supplies: (All SU Unless otherwise noted):
Paper: Very Vanilla, Blackberry Bliss
Ink: Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey, Tangelo Twist, Mossy Meadow, Cherry Cobbler.
Stamps: Day of Gratitude (Ret), You've got this.
Accessories: Dusty Durango polka dot grosgrain ribbon, rhinestones.

Monochromatic Blues

Good morning! So instead of posting in order from October,  I just picked a card I made recently.  A friend of mine just lost her grandma to a long struggle with cancer and I was inspired to make a card very similar to one by Mary Fish (she is my stamping crush!). She made this beautiful card that I knew that if I replicated, would be well received.

Below is my version. I used the new Midnight Muse In-Color and I love it! I am in love with this new palette to be honest! I really like the monochromatic look and the individual tiles can be chosen to reflect the person.

Gah! I noticed the smudged tile after taking the picture. It was replaced, don't worry!
The tiles are punched from the 1 1/4" square punch. I also added a little shimmer using Smooch Spritz that I recently purchased off the clearance rack. I am in LOVE with it. I've been smooching everything! I added some sparkly touches here and there and voila! It was a wrap!

Speaking of smooches. Check out my helper! This is how she was occupied while making this card. Never too young to stamp!

Carefully choosing a stamp set.  Look at set, taste test, discard. Repeat.
Have a stamptastic day!!

Gratitude for Nacho Challenge!

This morning when I logged into Facebook, I noticed a new challenge blog that Tammy Fite participated in and posted about. So, went over and checked it out and decided to play along!!

Here is what I came up with.  Fall is definitely in the mood today! It was the first day of 3rd grade for Evan and a balmy 55 here in North Pole, AK! So, it'll only be a matter of weeks before the leaves start falling and snow makes its way to the ground.

I love this Days of Gratitude set and chose to emboss them into the paper for a stunning look!

I need to sharpen my border punch, it is fraying my paper :(

Thanks for stopping by! Have a (warmer) stamp-tastic day!

Where's the time gone?

Hello all! Sorry its been a while since last posting...school is keeping me nice and busy!

I'm going to be teaching card classes at the Eielson AFB Arts and Crafts center in November! (I had one for October, but it was poorly advertised, so no one signed up) I'm very excited to be able to share my hobby to those just "testing their fingers in the ink" as I like to say! So, here are two of the cards I'll be making, the third isn't finished yet, so I'll post it later.

It's hard to tell in the photo above, the bottom half of the card is also crimped. Adds a nice element!
I knew for November I wanted to use Day of Gratitude because it is amazing! It's the ultimate fall stamp set, and there is so much you can do with it!  I dug into my retired DSP stock and used Autumn Spice(2010 Holiday Mini) paper as well.

Update! Here's the third card ( I made it this morning before school so I could be sure to email them to the Arts and Crafts Center on base) I was supposed to add the big pretty stamp from Day of Gratitude in Crumb Cake ink, but completely forgot it in my rushed efforts this morning! It'd add just a little more 'pop' to it, but for ease, I'll leave it for now!

I found my prototypes in Split Coast Stampers (lots of greatness comes from there) since I need help in the simplicity department.  It kills me to leave them how they are, but they are still great, and took me very little time to make.

Have a scrap-tastic day!!
